· Are the quick launch buttons programmable?
- Yes. Run "Application Key"
Launch the 'Application Key' application, and you can select programs (from within the 'Applications' tab) which should be launched when each of the application keys on the panel are pushed.
Note: Only the button can currently be assigned the "Menu Popup" function.

· Why doesn't the Menu button work?
- Some applications do not use the menu button.
Only when the main 'Launcher' display is visible, will the button cause the menu to pop-up.

- Has it been reprogrammed?
Make sure the button was assigned the "Menu Popup" function within the 'Application Key' application.

· Can't programs on the Zaurus rotate? (Landscape)
- Install the QPE-Rotation and Qt-Embedded-Rotation packages
To rotate applications (e.g., display them Landscape (320w x 240h) instead of Portrait (240w x 320h), install both of these packages: QPE-Rotation for the application, and Qt-Embedded-Rotation for the fonts and graphics. They are both available from the Zaurus feed.
Note: To rotate an application, you must run the 'Rotation' program (under the 'Settings' tab) first, then run the program. This lets you run many programs simultaneously, with only some of them rotated!

· Is there a way to switch between applications without using the taskbar icons, like Alt+Tab in MS Windows?
- Not quite, but here's a trick
There is nothing as simple as Alt+Tab. What you can do is use the hardware keys to navigate to the application's icon on the Qtopia desktop and launch it again. Instead of running a second copy it switches to the current instance. The application hardware keys (Calendar, Addressbook, Mail) can be used like this too.

· Can you launch multiple instances of the graphical applications in Qtopia?
- Not multiple instances of the same app
You can only launch several instances of different graphical applications at the same time. This is due to the way Qtopia has been designed, to keep things simple and conserve resources. The Zaurus is still multi-tasking and can run many instances of non-graphical processes.

· What is Qtopia/QPE?
- QPE stands for Qtopia Palmtop Environment. This got shortened to just Qtopia, although there are still many references to QPE.
Qtopia is the graphical environment that comes with the Zaurus as standard. It is roughly equivalent to KDE on desktop Linux.

· What is QT/E(mbedded)?
- QT/Embedded is not Qtopia. QT/Embedded is the embedded version of Trolltech's excellent QT, which is a library of objects and widgets that is used by Qtopia and all Qtopia apps to render everything on screen.

· Why does the 'screensaver' image come on when I am on battery power?
- This is a 'bug' where the auto-suspend feature has been purposefully disabled temporarily like, for example, when reading an ebook.

· Can I change the screensaver image?
- The screensaver image is /home/QtPalmtop/pics/Zaurus_logo.png . By default it is only a link to a file in the ROM, so it can be replaced by any other PNG image, as long as the image is no bigger than 100x100 pixels.
If you delete the file altogether the screensaver turns into a clock. To get the original image back run the following command as root:
ln -sf /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/pics/Zaurus_logo.png /home/QtPalmtop/pics/Zaurus_logo.png

· How do I exit Qtopia and enter a real command prompt?
- Using the Zaurus's terminal, type:
echo a > /home/sharp/etc/launch.default
killall qpe
that should drop you to a console, after this type:
killall qeserver
clear
You should then have a real console prompt to work with.

· I have a lot of applications running at the same time. How can I switch to the applications whose icons go off the taskbar?
- Install the TaskList Applet from the ZSI.
It gives you another icon on the taskbar that shows a list of all running applications when you tap it.
Selecting an application from the list switches to that application.

· I've got too many applets on my taskbar. Is there a way to hide/manage them like in Windows XP?
- Yes, install the Subapplet Applet from the ZSI.
This lets you move applets on to a secondary panel that is shown and hidden by tapping the arrows icon.
Tapping the 'i' button on the secondary panel brings up a configuration window that lets you completely disable an applet and change their ordering. To move applets to and from the secondary panel, tap and hold the arrows icon until a menu appears. Applets with a tick against them appear on the main taskbar and the rest appear on the secondary panel. To switch an applet
between the two, select it from this menu.
